Who will score the tournament’s first goal? Who will take three points in the first match and who will have to try their luck in the next round? We’ll get answers to these questions very soon. The start of summer is all about the World Championships – and not just the ones taking place across the Atlantic. This time, there’ll be no need to stay up for late-night broadcasts, but, more importantly, you’ll be able to support the Polish University Team. The tournament will feature 10 women’s and 16 men’s teams from 18 countries. It promises to be one of the biggest tournaments in years. For the first time in history, the World University Championships Futsal will also be coming to Warsaw. It is worth recalling that exactly 20 years ago, Poznań hosted the competition.
Fans will be able to watch powerhouses such as Brazil, Portugal and France in action. The Polish University National Team will certainly be fighting for a top spot as well. The women’s team won a bronze medal in Braga in 2022. The men’s team, meanwhile, achieved their best result 20 years ago in Poznań, finishing in 4th place.
The tournament will be a major event. Nearly 350 student athletes will be coming to Warsaw. The matches will be played in three venues: OSiR Włochy, OSiR Bemowo and the CKiS hall in Pruszkow. There will be plenty to choose from, as up to 12 matches will be played each day. The tournament will be supported by 90 volunteers from 9 countries. FISU World University Championship Futsal will be officiated by as many as 26 referees from 19 countries. The most important figures lie ahead of us: the number of goals scored and conceded.
– We’re all waiting for the first whistle, but there’s still plenty of work to be done and the adrenaline is pumping. Flights are about to start landing, we’re confirming guests and we’ve got loads of different things to sort out. These are positive emotions, of course, because we’ll probably all feel a sense of calm once the event’s over. We have a large team and we’ve all put in a lot of work, but there’s still a bit more to do, as we want everything to be of the highest standard. Futsal in Poland began at universities, and that’s where the first university teams were formed. I’m really not worried about the standard – said Rafał Jachimiak, the tournament coordinator.

The event is organised by the University Sport Association of Warsaw and the University Sport Association of Poland.
